About Our Founder
Thomasina Lee, a compassionate, visionary author, autism warrior, and enthusiastic educator was inspired by her autistic son and co-author, Taahir, to create Different Expectations Educational Services. As she navigated the system exploring her education options for her son, Thomasina began studying autism spectrum disorder and advocacy for autism began. Since then, she has completed her bachelorâs degree in early childhood education and obtained an autism and infant oddler mental health certificate. She's currently furthering her education to improve upon her ability to educate the world about autism and early childhood development
Over the years, Thomasina has poured her heart and soul into Different Expectations to which she calls her life mission and assignment. Her application of research-based practices to support children learning and development have resulted in her continued success in the Pennsylvania Keystone Stars Program, with DEES currently holding 3 stars. At Different Expectations Education Services, Mrs. Lee takes a holistic approach to education, demonstrating to both parents and educators the best ways to address cognitive, social-emotional, language, literacy, sensory, physical, and learning challenges. She makes accommodations and modification for each student according to their needs. Ms. Lee is committed to exploring evidence-based practices when designing instructional plans for children.
As an educator, Mrs. Lee firmly believes in the significance of continuous assessments for each student in their educational journey, recognizing the crucial role of parental involvement in this process. Her unwavering dedication to her own son, her students, and her community has propelled her to expand the horizons of her agency, offering consulting, coaching, and professional development courses for both parents and educators. Her ultimate objective is to equip families with the necessary tools to foster educational and social development, while empowering educators to make a more profound impact in these domains.
Â
Following the completion of her first book, "Picture This, Picture That," co-authored with her son Taahir, Mrs. Lee went on to create a sensory box that complements the book. This innovative duo, "Picture This, Picture That," serves as practical, enjoyable, and educational resources designed specifically to support autistic children. Furthermore, Thomasina has also developed "We Are Courageous," a journal tailored for parents with children who possess diverse abilities, serving as a guiding tool to foster an attitude of gratitude.

Buy NowMy Story
Educators frequently express the notion that every child has the capacity to learn. However, it is crucial to question whether they truly embrace this belief. Are they referring only to children who are deemed "typical" or "normal"? What about those with developmental delays, diverse abilities, and yes, even those on the autism spectrum?
Â
I firmly assert that individuals diagnosed with autism can achieve their utmost potential when provided with a robust support system. As an educator, author, and a autism warrior, I am dedicated to a mission of equipping educators and parents with the necessary tools to facilitate the growth and development of autistic children within their homes, schools, and communities. Through educational support, we can empower these children to thrive and succeed.
